This initiative is in response to The Commonwealth Government's National Aviation Policy and the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, the Hon Anthony Albanese who is encouraging airports to consult more broadly with their Community, Industry, Business Groups and their State and Territory Government. - Canberra Airport 2009

Canberra Airport shows its support of Canberra and the surrounding community through a wide variety of initiatives, these include:

SPICE
Canberra Airport is a major sponsor of the SPICE program and is contributing over $100,000 to ensure its success.  SPICE is a work experience and home tutoring program developed by Volunteering ACT. The program works with children aged 12-15 who are at risk of not completing their Year 10 certificate.

The SPICE program links students having difficulty connecting with their schools with their choice of work experience. The combined support of a work placement, a business mentor and a volunteer home tutor reinforces the need for students to complete Year 10. This enables students to access individual career pathways and to make positive choices for their future.

Post Doctorate Fellowship for Grassland Earless Dragon Research
Canberra Airport has also committed to fund over $141,501 plus $33,000 in kind over three years to the research of the Grassland Earless Dragon. The sponsorship includes the airport as a case study and is in partnership with the Australian Research Council and University of Canberra.

Special Community Events
Canberra Airport also supports the Rotary Club of Canberra's 'Circus Quirkus' and the Cancer Council's 'World's Biggest Morning Tea' through monetary and staff assistance including the organisation and promotion of the events.
