New Terminal
The impressive part of Canberra Airport's AirVolution is the new terminal building.
The existing terminal building will be demolished in stages to make room for the new bigger and better facility. The project will be built in two stages; the first due for completion in September this year is the Southern Concourse Terminal Extension and the second stage known as the Western Concourse Terminal Extension is due for completion in 2012.
When complete, Canberra will have a state-of-the-art airport that will rival any terminal of its size around the world.
Features of the new terminal include:
- Doubling the number of check-in counters.
- New food and beverage outlets plus exciting new retail outlets.
- A fully capable international terminal with dedicated customs, immigration and quarantine facilities.
- New airline club lounge areas, four times bigger than the existing facilities.
- Eight new glazed aerobridges.
- Expanded security screening areas.
- Tri-generation technology that will reduce carbon emissions by 75%.
- 600,000 litre water tank to capture rainwater for use in toilets and landscaping.
