New terminal renders

Canberra Airport is currently undergoing the biggest transformation in its history. Over a period of four years from 2009 to 2013, $420 million dollars will be invested in redeveloping the terminal and surrounding infrastructure.

This redevelopment will see the delivery of a new state-of-the-art airport that will aim to be the best of its size in the Asia-Pacific region. Included in this transformation are new roads, new car parks, a new terminal building and new aircraft parking aprons.

Completed last November was the first stage of the project, the Southern Concourse Terminal . This stage included the completion of one of two multi-storey car parks, a two level, dual lane axial roadway and a new terminal building. Improvements and extensions were also made to the aircraft parking aprons.

Next on the agenda and now under construction is the second stage to the project; the Western Concourse Terminal . This stage makes up 60% of the entire project and delivers some of the most exciting elements in the project, see below is list of what is still to come...

  • More shops including a book store and duty free store.
  • More food and beverage outlets including a brewery bar and Asian offering.
  • A second undercover car park with 1,200 additional spaces.
  • An indoor taxi rank.
  • 200 FREE pick-up spaces
  • More check-in counters, baggage collection belts and club lounge areas.
  • Well equipped parent’s room and dedicated kid’s zone.
  • Tri-generation technology that will reduce carbon emissions by 75%.
  • 600,000 litre water tank to capture rainwater for use in toilets and landscaping.

Completion of the ‘AirVolution’ will be an historical milestone in its own right and will deliver a new terminal benefiting the National Capital in time for Canberra’s centenary in 2013.
