Development Planning
Canberra Airport's consultation program is targeted at increasing the community's awareness of developments at and related to the Airport. Aircraft Noise is one area where community consultation is particularly important. Canberra Airport also conducts annual public meetings to allow the community to discuss airport issues, with a particular emphasis on aircraft noise issues.
Canberra Airport Aircraft Noise Consultative Forum
Ongoing aircraft noise issues and any new aircraft operational procedures established by regulators are discussed at the Canberra Airport Aircraft Noise Consultative Forum (CAANCF). The Forum meets three times a year at Canberra Airport and includes representatives from Commonwealth, NSW, ACT and local government, Airservices Australia, the aviation industry, peak community organisations and Airport
Development Planning
Runway developments and other major projects at the airport are subject to a Major Development Plan. Part of our process is a 60 business day public consultation period during which public meetings are held to allow the public to express their views and concerns in regards to the proposed development.
Furthermore, Canberra Airport is required to update its Master Plan every five years.A significant part of the Master Plan addresses the aircraft noise issues and future noise abatement strategies. We also hold a 60 business day public consultation period, during which public meetings are held, so the community has the opportunity to input into the Master Plan.
