Canberra Airport’s AirKidets Flight’scool program introduces primary school students into the world of aviation.
The program has been developed to educate students about the aviation industry and the important functions of an airport with a focus on areas such as employment, transport, history and its role in the community.
Students participating in the program have the opportunity to partake in two tours, both guided by the airport management team; Terminal Take-off Tour and the Airport Airfield Adventure Tour.
On the Terminal Take-off Tour students will navigate their way through the terminal following the passenger experience from check-in, through to security then on to boarding a plane. They will also get to venture behind the scenes of the terminal and, may also receive a special K9 demonstration from the Australian Federal Police.
The Airport Airfield Adventure Tour takes students where very few people are allowed to go. They will travel on a bus across runways and taxiways getting up close and personal to aircraft of all shapes and sizes. They will also learn about the different uses of an airport and make a stop at one of the most important residents on airport – the Airport Fire Brigade.
The students not only get a hands-on experience but also receive an education pack reinforcing what students have learnt on the tour. This pack also provides additional content aimed at improving their knowledge and understanding of an airport and the aviation industry.
