Master Plan (2009)
The Canberra Airport 2009 Master Plan was approved 28 August 2009.
The Master Plan presents the key focus of Canberra Airport as being:
- A generator of economic growth
- To meet the needs of the community
The Master Plan forecasts annual passenger growth of 4.2 per cent over the 20 year life of the Plan. Projections are included in the Master Plan of 7.25 million passengers passing through the Airport in 2029/30, including over 350,000 international passengers.
Building on existing overnight freight movements it is forecast freight movements will increase to 3-5 aircraft per evening rising to around 15 flights by 2029/30.
The Master Plan foreshadows a key role in meeting the aviation needs of the Sydney basin – a role that would deliver high speed rail to the Region.
The Master Plan also includes future development in Fairbairn, Brindabella Business Park and Majura Park precincts and provides detail on road works to cater for the growth in regional traffic around Canberra Airport.
Canberra Airport welcomes ongoing cooperation with the ACT, NSW and Commonwealth Governments to achieve long-term traffic solutions.
