The first shipment of perishable goods to be flown direct from Canberra to Singapore will leave on SQ 292 tonight.
Canberra Airport Managing Director, Stephen Byron, said the shipment was a momentous advance in the development of international freight direct to Singapore from Canberra.
“We’ve been delighted to work with Australian Capital Region Produce, Qantas Freight and Singapore Airlines to facilitate access for the producers of fresh food from our wide region, straight into the Singapore market”, Mr Byron said.
“What it means is that businesses in Singapore can place an order, and the shipment will be flown out on the next flight”.
“The introduction of international flights into Canberra has always incorporated freight as an important element, and we have enjoyed working with producers in Canberra and the wider region to take advantage of an express service, straight into the heart of Asia”.
“We’ve also been delighted to work with our close neighbours, Pialligo Estate, to ensure that this shipment of their award winning bacon and salmon, plus our cold climate premium wines and olive oil arrives in Singapore on its National Day, the major holiday celebrating Singapore’s independence”.
“We expect there’ll be a great reception for produce from Pialligo Estate in Canberra, Fedra Olive Oil in Collector, Helm Wines and Ravensworth Wines in Murrumbateman, Nick Spencer Wines in Canberra, Lark Hill in Bungendore and Nick O’Leary Wines from Lake George”.
“Tonight’s flight is just the start of a whole new exciting phase for Canberra and South East producers”, Mr Byron said.
