This month-long festival features contemporary public art, live performances, and installations across iconic Canberra locations, including Lake Burley Griffin, the National Arboretum, and Canberra Glassworks. With a focus on public art, the event transforms spaces and invites audiences to explore the relationship between art and place. Discover a variety of mediums, from steel and glass to video, dance, and spoken word, in this celebration of creativity across the broader landscape of Canberra.
Canberra Airport is home to one piece of art for the duration of the festival.
About the work
Waypoint reflects the contrast between our aspiration to fly and our inherent state of being grounded. Crafted from steel and concrete, this armless figure fuses human and bird. Inspired by aeroplane elements, the figure features rounded porthole windows and a painted wingspan down its body. This sculpture invites viewers to reflect on their own journey, contemplating the wait between earth and anticipated flight.
