Canberra & Capital Region Tourism Awards

03 December 2014

Canberra Airport has taken out the Award for Specialised Tourism Services at the 2014 Canberra & Capital Region Tourism Awards.

“As the gateway to a region of almost a million people, from Day One our family recognised and committed to the pivotal role of the airport as a major catalyst for tourism, particularly for overseas visitors,” Managing Director Stephen Byron said.

“That commitment is shared by our staff, especially our Customer Service Officers who are at the coalface, our airline partners, and the many businesses and individuals servicing the terminal who make it a superior travel experience for visitors. To them I say thank you – this award acknowledges your contribution as well, as part of the Canberra Airport family.
“Nowhere else in Australia is there an airport experience like the one you get in Canberra. We have created an exceptional terminal, built for the next 50 years.

“While we have planned for the future, our focus is very firmly on the here and now. Our new Vibe hotel, in partnership with the Toga Far East Group, will be open in a year, and we hope that international travellers flying in from south east Asia will be amongst the first guests.

“We are international ready and direct overseas flights cannot come soon enough for us.
“We know from our trip to Singapore this year with the ACT Government trade delegation that there is huge potential for our region in this market.

“Our product is a well-designed, safe and secure city, delivering good hotel accommodation and lots of restaurants, with visits to the major National Attractions (especially the Australian War Memorial) mixed with nature experiences, golf with kangaroos, mountain biking or self-guided tours to our wineries, the Snowy Mountains or through the South Coast.

“We’re all ready to go, let’s just get out there and do it!” Mr Byron said.
