Major Traffic Changes Around Majura - What You Need To Know
From 16 March, important road upgrades will begin around the Majura Precinct to improve safety, traffic capacity and cycling connections in the area. These works will continue through March, with the goal of being finished before the Easter long weekend.
During this time, several road closures and detours will be in place. Here’s a full breakdown to help you plan your visit.
Road Closures & Access Changes
Fairbairn Ave → Majura Rd access closed.
Drivers will not be able to:
- Turn left from Fairbairn Ave onto Majura Road Eastbound.
- Make a right-hand turn onto Majura Road northbound.
These restrictions mean direct access into Majura Precinct from Fairbairn Ave is unavailable during the works.

Alternative Route Into Majura Precinct
All inbound traffic from Fairbairn Avenue or Pialligo Avenue must use a temporary detour:
- Continue onto Majura Parkway
- Travel to the Tambreet Street roundabout
- Loop back down Majura Road into the precinct
This route will add a few extra minutes to the journey, so please ensure to plan ahead.
Leaving Majura Precinct
No major changes apply to outbound travel.
Vehicles exiting Majura can still:
- Travel south along Majura Road, and
- Turn left or right onto Fairbairn Ave** as normal.
Changes to Bus Services
To help maintain Transport Canberra timetable reliability:
- Two bus stops inside Majura Park will close temporarily
- A temporary bus stop has been established on Majura Road, after the Spitfire Ave roundabout (towards Fairbairn Ave)
Passengers should allow a little extra time for their trip during this period.
About the Upgrade Works
The project will deliver major improvements when complete, including:
1. Majura Road (southbound)
- A new slip lane from Majura Office Park carpark
- Extended bike path through to Spitfire Ave roundabout
2. Fairbairn Avenue (westbound)
- Relocated bike path
- Two new right-turn lanes into Majura Road
3. Fairbairn Avenue (eastbound)
- New left-turn slip lane onto Majura Road northbound
These upgrades will significantly improve traffic efficiency and reduce congestion at one of the area’s busiest intersections.
Thank You for Your Patience - We understand these changes may cause some inconvenience. Huon, Roads ACT and Transport Canberra are working together to minimise impacts wherever possible.
We appreciate your patience as these essential improvements are delivered.
