Today, Canberra Airport announced the launch of a new direct flight route between Canberra, Australia, and Denpasar, Bali, commencing on June 14, 2024 in partnership with Indonesian based carrier, Batik Air under the Lion Group. The new route will be operating three times weekly, between Bali, Denpasar and Canberra, Australia.

Canberra Airport’s Head of Aviation, Michael Thomson, said it was fantastic to welcome another international airline to our network. “Bali is an amazing destination that blends culture, nature, and adventure and appeals to all types of travellers. We are also excited about the opportunity to connect Canberra to Asia through Batik's extensive network.”

Group Strategy Director Batik Air, Chandran Rama Muthy said that Canberra is the sixth destination connecting to Bali, providing travellers with easy access to one of Southeast Asia's highly desired destinations.

"Our objective is not only to attract travellers from Canberra to Bali but also to unveil exciting opportunities for exploration in Indonesia's diverse secondary destinations served by Lion Air. We are dedicated to enhance connectivity and making travel more accessible for passengers from Australia and Indonesia, and this new route reaffirms our dedication to that objective,” he said.

“The ACT Government welcomes this investment from Batik Air Service in the Canberra-Bali route,” ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr said.

“A direct flight between Bali and Canberra will greatly benefit holiday seekers from Canberran and the region. The route also presents a great opportunity to connect the Canberra region to South-East Asia for leisure, trade and education. The ACT Government welcomes Canberra Airport’s efforts to make it easier and cheaper to visit Canberra.”

Batik Air hopes to attract Canberrans to Bali and provide travellers with access to secondary destinations in Indonesia served by Lion Air, including Labuan Bajo, Lombok, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Jakarta, Makassar, and Manado. Batik Air is a full-service airline of the Lion Air Group.
