Singapore Services a Smashing Success
The new Singapore Airlines direct service to Canberra and Wellington has been such an outstanding success that Canberra Airport is hoping to extend the service from four to five days a week.
Canberra Airport’s Head of Aviation, Matthew Brown, said the latest report by the Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics showed load rates (the number of passengers per flight) averaged 83% for the Canberra-Singapore flight.
“This is a remarkably strong performance for a new route. We are very happy with this result, as is Singapore Airlines” Mr Brown said.
“The performance of the route is even stronger in the months of November and December, and this will be revealed by BITRE in its future reports”.
“Based on these figures, the viability of the route shows that it is well established and becoming more popular”.
“We are in constant dialogue with Singapore Airlines and are pushing for the addition of the 5th service in the near future, but understand that this will be a commercial decision by the airline”.
