Virgin Australia to launch first-ever international flight from Canberra to Bali

22 June 2026

Virgin Australia will today make history with the departure of its inaugural Canberra-Bali service, marking the airline’s first-ever international flight from the nation's capital.

Virgin Australia return Canberra-Bali services will operate three times per week, adding more than 40,000 seats annually between Australia and the island hotspot. The new route will also further strengthen Virgin Australia’s extensive Bali network, which now offers more than half a million seats each year from Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Canberra.

The service also enhances connectivity between Australia and Bali through convenient interstate connections via Canberra while also providing regional communities bordering the capital, including Batemans Bay, Bega, Cooma, Jindabyne and Merimbula, new options to holiday overseas without needing to travel via Sydney or Brisbane.

To celebrate, Virgin Australia has partnered with FINNS Beach Club, recognised as the world’s most popular beach club^ to bring a taste of Bali to Canberra Airport. Guests of the inaugural flight will receive complimentary FINNS’ daybed vouchers valued at $190 each, plus entertainment including live performances from the club’s iconic dancers.

To mark the milestone, Virgin Australia has today launched a sale with fares from Canberra to Bali (Denpasar) available from $449* return (Economy Lite). The sale is available to book here until 11:59pm AEST next Friday 26 June 2026 (unless sold out prior), for selected travel dates between 28 July 2026 and 24 May 2027.

Velocity Frequent Flyer members can also redeem Reward Seats from just 22,500 Velocity Points one way, plus applicable airport taxes and government charges, providing members with even more opportunities to use their Points on international travel.

Commentary

Virgin Australia Chief Marketing and Customer Operations Officer, Libby Minogue said the new route was an important step in growing the airline’s network and providing greater connectivity for travellers.

“Today marks a significant milestone for Virgin Australia as we operate our first-ever international flight from Canberra, connecting the nation’s capital directly with one of Australia’s most popular overseas destinations,” said Ms Minogue.

“With more than 40,000 seats a year now available to book between Canberra and Bali, and more than half a million seats annually across our broader Bali network, the new service is creating more choice and connectivity for travellers while making it easier than ever to reach Bali.

“We’ve already seen a strong response from customers, which reinforces the demand for direct international services from Canberra. This route not only gives Canberrans and surrounding regional communities a more convenient way to travel overseas, it will also help drive inbound visitation and economic activity for the ACT by making it easier for international visitors to experience everything Canberra has to offer.

“To celebrate the launch, we're offering return sale fares from just $449 to Bali, giving travellers a fantastic opportunity to experience our award-winning service and book their next holiday at great value,” she said.

Speaking on the partnership with FINNS Beach Club, Ms Minogue said: “FINNS is one of Bali’s most iconic destinations and a venue enjoyed by travellers from around the world, so it was a natural partner to help us celebrate this milestone.”

Australian Capital Territory Chief Minister, Andrew Barr said:

“Bali is one of the most popular destinations for Australians, and now thousands of Canberrans will be able to skip the queues and airport transfers, and fly direct from home. With Virgin Australia’s modern aircraft and high-quality service, Canberrans can look forward to a seamless, comfortable journey.

“This new route also opens our city up to more inbound travellers, making it easier to visit Canberra.

“Strengthening aviation connectivity is critical to growing our visitor economy, and I thank Virgin Australia for their confidence in our market, their continued partnership with Canberra Airport, and the premium travel experience they bring to this route.”

Canberra Airport Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Byron said direct international services are vital for the Canberra region.

“Direct international services are incredibly important for the Canberra region, and this new Bali service is a wonderful milestone for our community,” he said.

“It gives travellers more choice, strengthens our connection to the world, and makes it easier for people across the region to access one of the most popular holiday destinations on our doorstep.”

“It’s also especially meaningful as the first international service from Canberra by an Australian airline, Virgin Australia’s first international route from Canberra, and a proud reflection of our 23 year relationship with Virgin Australia. This is just the beginning of even more international growth opportunities for Canberra in the years ahead.”

Finns Beach Club, Chief Executive Officer, Beau Whittington said:

"FINNS Beach Club is really excited to partner with Virgin Australia as they expand their direct services. As a proud Australian myself, it is great to have direct flights from the capital. With FINNS welcoming 1 in 5 international visitors to Bali through our doors, we want to align with a great airline like Virgin Australia to help drive tourism to Bali."
